# VibeCheckThis: full reference for agents > VibeCheckThis is a free, no-account poll maker with 15 formats. Agents create and manage polls through a hosted MCP server or a JSON API; people vote on the shared link and results update live. Polls last seven days. Machines never cast votes. Short version: https://beta.vibecheckthis.com/llms.txt ## Connect - MCP server (Streamable HTTP, no auth): https://beta.vibecheckthis.com/mcp - JSON API base: https://beta.vibecheckthis.com/api/v1 - Claude Code: `claude mcp add --transport http vibecheck https://beta.vibecheckthis.com/mcp` - Claude: Settings > Connectors > Add custom connector, URL https://beta.vibecheckthis.com/mcp - ChatGPT: Settings > Apps and connectors > Advanced > Developer mode, then create a connector with URL https://beta.vibecheckthis.com/mcp and no authentication - Cursor: cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=vibecheck&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2JldGEudmliZWNoZWNrdGhpcy5jb20vbWNwIn0%3D - VS Code: `code --add-mcp '{"name":"vibecheck","type":"http","url":"https://beta.vibecheckthis.com/mcp"}'` - Codex: `codex mcp add vibecheck --url https://beta.vibecheckthis.com/mcp` - CLI (macOS, Linux; Node.js 22.12+): `curl -fsS https://beta.vibecheckthis.com/install.sh | VIBECHECK_INSTALL_BASE_URL=https://beta.vibecheckthis.com sh` The MCP endpoint uses stateless Streamable HTTP with JSON responses. Browser GET and HEAD requests to /mcp return the documentation page; protocol requests use POST. Every tool declares no authentication. Native clients normally omit the Origin header; a present browser Origin must match the service exactly, and there is no wildcard CORS. Clients that only support local stdio MCP can install the CLI (0.5.0 or newer) and run `vibecheck mcp`, which serves the same seven tools and forwards them to the hosted JSON API. The CLI creates every format directly too, with `--mode`, `--config`, `--correct`, `--answer`, `--collect-names`, `--reveal-after-vote`, `--closes-at` and `--closes-in`. ## How an agent runs a poll 1. Only create, change, close or delete a poll when the person asks. 2. Pick a format. Call `list_formats`, or use the guidance below. 3. Call `create_vibe` with a title, `mode` (a format id), `items`, and any `config` and settings. 4. Send the person the returned `vibe.url`. People vote there, in a browser. 5. Keep `management.key` secret. Never print it, log it or put it in a URL. 6. Later, call `get_vibe` with the slug or link. Its `headline` is one plain sentence you can quote, and `results` ranks every option. ## MCP tools - `list_formats` (read; management key: no): Lists all 15 formats with when to use each one, option limits, config settings and a ready create_vibe example. - `create_vibe` (write; management key: no): Makes a poll in any format from a title, mode, options, config and settings. Returns the public link and a secret management key. - `upload_image` (write; management key: no): Stages one base64 WebP and returns a secret image_ref for create_vibe. It expires after 15 minutes. - `get_vibe` (read; management key: optional): Reads the poll and its live results: a plain-English headline, ranked options and format totals. The key also reveals private results and quiz or guess answers. - `update_vibe` (manage; management key: required): Changes the title until the first vote, and result visibility, shuffle or the scheduled close time at any time. - `close_vibe` (manage; management key: required): Stops new votes. The poll still expires seven days after it was made. - `delete_vibe` (delete; management key: required): Permanently deletes the poll and its images. Confirm with the person first. Successful tool calls return validated `structuredContent` plus an equivalent JSON text block, with a warning that poll content is untrusted and keys are secret. ## create_vibe and POST /api/v1/vibes Required: `items` (text, link or image options). Optional: - `title`: up to 200 characters. Defaults to "What’s your take?". - `mode`: A format id from the table, such as tier_list. Defaults to choose_one. - `config`: Format options, such as { "scale": 10 } for Rate it. - `collect_names`: Ask voters for an optional nickname, shown with results. Suits When works? polls. - `reveal_after_vote`: Quiz and Guess it: show each voter the answer right after they vote. Their ballot then becomes final. - `closes_at`: An ISO 8601 time when voting closes on its own: in the future and within seven days. - `results_public`: Set false to keep results private to the key holder. - `shuffle_order`: Show each voter the options in a random order. - `client_id` and `idempotency_key` (a random UUID v4), together, make a create safe to retry. Reuse the pair only for the exact same payload. Item shapes: ```json { "type": "text", "content": "Tacos" } { "type": "link", "content": "https://example.com/menu", "label": "The menu" } { "type": "image", "image_ref": "vci_...", "label": "Noodles" } ``` Labels are optional, up to 80 characters; on images they are the caption. Text options are up to 4,000 characters and links up to 2,048. Links must be absolute HTTP or HTTPS URLs; they are stored but never fetched. Optional fields on any item: - `correct`: Quiz: set "correct": true on the one right option. It stays private until the poll closes, or until each voter votes with reveal_after_vote. - `answer`: Guess it: the true number for that option, inside the config min and max. Private like a quiz answer. - `id`: A stable id of up to 64 URL-safe characters, needed only when config refers to an option. Format `config` labels hold at most 24 characters and a guess unit at most 12. Unknown config fields are rejected. The response contains `vibe` (with `slug`, `url`, `status`, `expires_at` and the options) and `management.key`, the only copy of the secret key. Save it right away if the person will want to manage the poll later. The hosted MCP server cannot recover or keep it across sessions. ## Reading results `get_vibe` (or `GET /api/v1/vibes/{slug}`) takes the eight-character slug or the full poll link. Every read includes `format_config` without private answers, `closes_at`, `collect_names`, `reveal_after_vote`, `voter_count`, `results` and `headline`. `results` follows the format contract: one entry per option with a 1-based `rank` (ties share a rank), a 0 to 1 `score`, a short `display` value like "54%", "4.2 stars" or "S tier" and format-specific totals, plus `leaders` and a `headline`. The headline is one plain sentence, such as "Tacos leads with 54% of 41 votes." Quote it as is. Quiz and guess answers appear in results only once the poll closes. Reads with the management key also include `private_format_config`, with those answers. When results are private, public reads return `results: null` and `headline: null`. ## Images 1. Convert the image locally to a nonanimated WebP: at most 2 MiB, 4,096 pixels per side and 16 million pixels. 2. MCP: call `upload_image` with `{ "data": "", "mime_type": "image/webp" }`. REST: `POST /api/v1/images` with `Content-Type: image/webp` and the raw bytes. 3. Within 15 minutes, pass the returned `image_ref` in an image item. Each reference is single-use secret material. Never send a data URL, a remote URL or a file path; the service does not fetch them. Up to 6 images and 8 MiB of image data per poll. One create can hold an image reference at a time; on `image_upload_in_progress`, wait for the retry interval and retry the same create. ## Managing a poll - `update_vibe` / `PATCH`: `title` (only until the first vote; later returns 409 `vibe_started`), `results_public`, `shuffle_order` and `closes_at` (an ISO 8601 time within seven days of creation, or `null` to stay open until expiry). - `close_vibe` / `POST .../close`: stops voting. The poll still expires seven days after creation. - `delete_vibe` / `DELETE`: removes the poll, its votes and its images. Confirm with the person first. MCP tools take the key in `management_key`. REST takes it only as `Authorization: Vibe `. Keep it out of URLs, logs, source control and public messages. ## JSON API Base URL: https://beta.vibecheckthis.com/api/v1. Send `Content-Type: application/json`. Every response has `X-Request-Id` and `Cache-Control: no-store`. Errors look like `{ "error": { "code", "message", "request_id", "retry_after_seconds" } }`. - `POST /api/v1/vibes` (management key: no): Create a poll. - `POST /api/v1/images` (management key: no): Stage one raw WebP and get a short-lived image_ref. - `GET /api/v1/vibes/{slug}` (management key: optional): Read the poll and its results. - `PATCH /api/v1/vibes/{slug}` (management key: required): Update the title before voting, result settings or the close time. - `POST /api/v1/vibes/{slug}/close` (management key: required): Stop voting. - `DELETE /api/v1/vibes/{slug}` (management key: required): Permanently delete. ```sh curl --fail-with-body --silent --show-error \ -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \ -d '{"title":"Where are we eating Friday?","mode":"choose_one","items":[{"type":"text","content":"Tacos"},{"type":"text","content":"Pho"},{"type":"text","content":"Pizza"},{"type":"text","content":"Sushi"}]}' \ "https://beta.vibecheckthis.com/api/v1/vibes" ``` ## Formats 15 formats in 6 families. Each example below is a minimal create request. Quiz and guess answers stay private until the poll closes, or until each voter votes when `reveal_after_vote` is true; that voter’s ballot then becomes final. `list_formats` returns the same guidance and examples. ### Pick: Choose from the list. #### Pick one (`choose_one`) Everyone picks a single favorite. Voters see: "Pick one." When to use it: Use for a single decision between options: where to eat, which photo, which name. Options: 2 to 20. Config: none. ```json { "title": "Where are we eating Friday?", "mode": "choose_one", "items": [ { "type": "text", "content": "Tacos" }, { "type": "text", "content": "Pho" }, { "type": "text", "content": "Pizza" }, { "type": "text", "content": "Sushi" } ] } ``` #### Pick any (`pick_many`) Check every option you like.
